The Tompkins book on Gorham master salts lists model number A2956 dating from 1901-2. It is illustrated with A2957 and A2958 which were identical pieces in graduated smaller sizes. This one measures 1 7/8" in diameter, stands 7/8" high, and weighs .5 T. oz. It has a round cauldron-shaped body that stands on four ball feet. The interior is finished in a gold wash. 4 Matching Webster Company "Leaf" Sterling Nut Dishes

Each of these four solid sterling silver nut dishes measures 2 1/2" in diameter and is 1/2" deep. The group weighs 3.0 T. oz. They were made by the Webster Company of North Attleboro, Massachusetts, likely in the first third of the 20th century. The design is naturalistic. Each dish is formed in the manner of a leaf, showing a veined interior and having ruffled edges. There are no monograms, inscriptions, or removals. These are charming items in flawless condition and having fine finishes.

It was retailed by a premier jeweler, Tilden-Thurber of Providence, Rhode Island, a company whose fortunes were closely tied to Gorham both by informal joint enterprise and through marriage. Each of these four identical individual salts and spoons consists of a pot-shaped salt that measures 1 1/4" in diameter and stands 5/8" high. This is accompanied by a 2" long spoon in the Commonwealth (1908) pattern by Watson, which is a matching design to the salt. The spoons are marked with the Watson emblem, while the salts are marked with the wreath emblem of Wilcox and Wagoner which was a division of Watson. Pair Tall Empire Sterling Candlesticks

This pair of single stem, weighted candlesticks measure 9 5/8" tall each, and have bases that are 4" in diameter. The maker is Empire Silver of Brooklyn, New York, and that name appears on the undersides, along with the word Sterling. They are unused, probably no more than twenty years old, and consequently in untouched condition. They even retain paper tags on the underside cautioning against putting them in a dishwasher or allowing a candle to burn down to the metal.

Turned top edge. On a base. Diameter 8-1/2". Height 4-1/2". Weight 14.3 troy ounces. Engraving on side of bowl is a 2-1/8" circle containing a horse's head and an inscription around it, "PERCHERON SOCIETY OF AMERICA CHICAGO". Engraved on the bottom is: "CHAMPION TROPHY/OFFERED BY/THE PERCHERON SOCIETY OF AMERICA/FIVE STALLIONS OWNED BY EXHIBITOR/OREGON STATE FAIR/SALEM-OREGON 1915" and then the names of the horses and of the recipient.

The maker was Dominick & Haff whose emblem is stamped on the underside, along with the model number 522 and the word Sterling. It is four-lobed, something like a club on a deck of cards, or a clover leaf, and has an applied rim. This is decorated with small flowers, perhaps forget-me-nots or poseys, and scrolls. This c. 1900 sterling silver butter pat measures 3 1/8" in diameter and is relatively heavy at .7 T. oz. It was made by Frank Whiting and is model number 2090, according to the markings stamped on the underside. The border is highly decorative, featuring an acanthus leaf motif arrayed in a way to suggest scrolls and ribbon. The center has an especially artful "RMM" monogram set on an angle. The piece is in flawless condition and has a fine finish.

Brothers William and Archibald Cooper are documented as working in Cincinnati, Ohio, 1836-1837 and Louisville, Kentucky 1838-1846, while at least one source locates them briefly in Frankfurt, Kentucky in the early 1840's. Spectacular art nouveau silver French desk barometer by the prominent Paris firm of Risler & Carré which was located at 16, rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré from the 1890's until early in the 20th century. This piece is hallmarked 1st standard which means that the silver is 95% pure versus the English and American standard of 92.5% for sterling. It dates from around 1900.
