English Sterling goblet by Hayden, Charleston, SC
Silver: Coin Silver: Hollowware
Albion Antiques Ltd
SA1M35 $1850
This must be a Charleston form as this is the third goblet of this form and decoration I have had from Charleston. This one is a bit later, with marks, pictured, for A.H.Hayden who, with W.G.Whilden, represented the last partnership of this dynasty which began in 1838 with his brothers Nathaniel and Sidney. This last partnership ended in 1863 when Hayden was in the Confederate Army and they subsequently set up business separately. This goblet must then date from about 1865 onwards.
In fairly go... Click for details

Sterling/gold center bowl, The Sweetser Co., c1910.
Silver: Sterling: Hollowware
Albion Antiques Ltd
SA1M37 $2250
A very pretty and elegant sterling bowl with some of the finest engraving you would ever see.
In each of three panels there is a very fine engraving of an elaborate hanging basket with overflowing with various flowers and trailing vines. The other three panels is simple floral engraving. The whole is topped with a Persian- influenced frieze of raised decoration, all bordered with a 14 ct gold band.
The workmanship is outstanding. This is only the second article I have owned by The Sweetser Co... Click for details

Repousse sterling center bowl, Whiting, c.1880.
Silver: Sterling: Hollowware
Albion Antiques Ltd
SA1M36 $2250
Here is a striking beautiful sterling bowl by the Whiting Company. It is described as repousse in the title, but that was purely descriptive. The floral work on this bowl is applied and chased, which is a much more skilled and painstaking process. These applied flowers and leaves seem to 'grow' out of a background of acid-etched shrubbery. All this decoration is over a hammered texture to the bowl. In short this bowl has undergone three different methods of decoration.
In that respect it is uni... Click for details

Sterling bowl with Lion's Heads, Gorham 1869.
Silver: Sterling: Hollowware
Albion Antiques Ltd
SA1M19 $1500
Here is a wonderful sterling bowl by Gorham, dated with a B for 1869, adorned with two cast silver lion's heads. These are of very stylized forms, with Persian influences. They have swept back ears, hooded eyes and prominent moustaches. They each also have a strange collar.
It is in amazing condition for its age and delicacy. The gilding and engraving in the bowl is intact although the gilding is a bit pale with years of polishing. There are no dents, repairs or monograms.
Fully marked on the b... Click for details
