Packrats Plunders
LA100240 $225.00
Mermod & Jaccard Sterling Silver Match Safe with an embossed man’s face, three ladies faces, and embossed with surrealistic clouds of smoke wreathing around them in very good detail. China Trade cat box circa 1920
Silver: China Trade
Bruce Cherner Antique Silver
2048 $150.00
no, not that kind of a cat box, but a snuff box with "trap door" opening and secret compartment, 2 1/4 by 1 7/8 by 1 inches, weight 2.27 oz. Troy, marked with Chinese ideograms only (please see 5th photo).
In terms of construction, this is, not alas a first rate object. The edges don't quite meet up flush, the hinge is on the exterior rather than integral, and there are also a few minor bits of waviness on the fron... Click for details

Silver: Sterling: Smalls
Old Friends
943f $ 265
This c. 1900 sterling silver letter opener was made by Graff, Washburne & Dunn and shows that company's capacity in articulating the Art Nouveau style. It is solid sterling silver, measuring 7 5/8" long and weighing a substantial 2.6+ T. oz. The end of the handle features a cast poppy and leaves. This element is solid, not hollow, and fully conveys in its flowing design all the sinuous freedoms encompassed by the Art Nouveau movement. Gorham 19th Century Solid Sterling Silver Bell
Silver: Sterling: Smalls
Old Friends
858f $ 125
This silver bell stamped Sterling, with Gorham's lion, anchor, G mark, and a date symbol for 1898, is unusual for two reasons. One, silver bells were more frequently than not made in plate rather than sterling as good tonal quality was easier to achieve (this one has a pleasant ring nonetheless). Secondly, it is stamped with the number 7822 in a rectangle, which in the Gorham system indicated a special order or prototype item. (See noted Gorham authority Sam Hough's discussion of the company ... Click for details

“BOW-WOW-WOW”, & “PUSSYCAT” in raised letters on either clasp of this very old bib holder. Each of the clasps has a makers mark of “P & B” with each letter stamped within a separate stamped heart as in Paye & Baker, and each is also marked “STERLING” above the makers mark. Silver: Sterling: Smalls
Old Friends
847f $ 135
This c. 1900 5" long, 1.3+ T. oz., solid sterling silver shoe horn has a double provenance. It was made by the highly regarded silver and jewelry manufacturer, George Shiebler, and retailed by Tiffany & Co. whose name needs no footnote. Markings for both firms, plus the word Sterling and the number 5838 are stamped on the reverse. Characteristic of Shiebler, the design is imaginative and individualistic.
