Bruce Cherner Antique Silver
2054 $550.00
set of six in original felt lined box, .800 standard, maker Fabbrica Argenteria Fiorentina circa 1935, total weight 3.86 oz. Troy, excellent condition, no monogram. These are well modelled and well executed. Each putto is full figural front and back. China Trade cat box circa 1920
Silver: China Trade
Bruce Cherner Antique Silver
2048 last seen in Chinese customs, now missing and presumed stolen
no, not that kind of a cat box, but a snuff box with "trap door" opening and secret compartment, 2 1/4 by 1 7/8 by 1 inches, weight 2.27 oz. Troy, marked with Chinese ideograms only (please see 5th photo).
In terms of construction, this is, not alas a first rate object. The edges don't quite meet up flush, the hinge is on the exterior rather than integral, and there are also a few minor bits of waviness on the fron... Click for details

Bow Wow Dog & Pussycat Sterling Bib Holder Clasp/HTF
Silver: Sterling: Smalls
Packrats Plunders
LA100197 $48.00
“BOW-WOW-WOW”, & “PUSSYCAT” in raised letters on either clasp of this very old bib holder. There is also a pic of a barking dog on one, and a smugly smiling kitty wearing a bib at his plate on the other end. Each of the clasps has a makers mark of “P & B” with each letter stamped within a separate stamped heart as in Paye & Baker, and each is also marked “STERLING” above the makers mark. Both clasps work well with springs that feel strong, and the chain, which I believe is also sterling is in ve... Click for details

Silver: Sterling: Smalls
Old Friends
847f $ 135
This c. 1900 5" long, 1.3+ T. oz., solid sterling silver shoe horn has a double provenance. It was made by the highly regarded silver and jewelry manufacturer, George Shiebler, and retailed by Tiffany & Co. whose name needs no footnote. Markings for both firms, plus the word Sterling and the number 5838 are stamped on the reverse. Characteristic of Shiebler, the design is imaginative and individualistic. It is a series of entwined scrolls and ringlets suggestive of a woven fabric or conversely... Click for details

Gorham Solid Sterling Silver 1892 Grape Shears
Silver: Sterling: Smalls
Old Friends
729f $ 110
Identified as "scissors" (see image 2) in the 1892 Gorham catalog, this form is also referred to as grape shears. A typical example from the period has hollow handles incorporating a grape design with steel (often German) blades. This pair is quite innovative, abandoning convention. They are solid sterling silver with the exception of an applied steel (to create an effective cutting edge) on one of the blades. The grips are large and round, while the arms have a block pattern. The hinge is ... Click for details

Richards Antiques
$525 SOLD
Fine set of three Georgian wine labels or tickets -- for madeira, port and claret -- by the renowned maker John Reily. They are cast and have a griffin crest. The definitive book, “Wine Labels,” edited and co-authored by John Salter says (p. 154) that Reily was one of five silversmiths in the generation that came to prominence around 1820 who “are particularly worthy of mention for the quality of their product and their contribution to original design.” The book also cites the particular design... Gorham "Clematis" Sterling Napkin Ring
Silver: Sterling: Smalls
Old Friends
789b $ 95
This napkin ring was made by Gorham in 1896 according to the date emblem stamped on it. Other marks are lion, anchor, G and Sterling, and the model number 1915. The piece appears for the first time in Gorham's 1896 catalog, so this was apparently the initial year of issue. It stands 1 1/4" high and is 1 5/8" in diameter, and is heavy weight at 1.5 T. oz. The sidewalls are slightly bowed and have an acid etched designed that seems to replicate Gorham Clematis flatware pattern, which is also a... Click for details
