General Israel Putnam was a fabled Revolutionary War figure whose name and exploits were well known in the late 19th century, the period of this piece. The specific subject of this 5 1/2" long teaspoon was his encounter with a marauding she wolf in the northeastern Connecticut town of Pomfret. The neighboring town of Putnam is named for him. This sterling silver teaspoon is full-sized at 5 13/16" long. It weighs .9 T. oz. The pattern is Alvin's Art Nouveau Old Orange Blossom, which in this instance has been adapted as a souvenir spoon. If features a die struck image of Cathedral Drive, Lakewood, New Jersey in the bowl, and is so identified. It is in flawless condition, and without a monogram or removal. This 5 1/2" long, sterling silver souvenir spoon is stamped "E. Mehesy," who was the maker or retailer. It is a commemorative of Salt Lake City, with the dominant element being the figure of the Angel Moroni blowing a horn. This has a die-struck decorated bowl that portrays the "Saltair Beach and Pavilion." Other examples of this spoon show the Mormon Tabernacle in the bowl. This portraiture may be a less common one. This is a nice little matching knife and spoon with the American flag on both. The knife is ornate with pretty scroll work. The are no markings. The knife measures 6 and 7/8 inches long, and the spoon 4 and 7/8 inches long, a nice baby food size. They both has some wear to the silver plating. The look quite old, but I do not know the age or maker.

This sterling silver spoon is model number H16 patented by Gorham in 1898. It was retailed by Shourds, Adcock & Teufel of Chicago. The theme is American and British unity. The bowl reads, "The Stars and Stripes and the Union Jack wave together over an Anglo-Saxon alliance." The dominant feature of the handle is entwined British and American flags that are enameled in red, white, and blue. The pattern is similar to that comany's Hampton, which dates from 1904 and would be the approximate vintage of this piece. The bowl is engraved with a scene featuring the "High Bridge" in Muscatine, Iowa. The Mississippi River appears in the foreground, with the bridge prominently featured, and the city scape on the far banks. This 5 3/16" long, slightly over .5 T. oz., early 20th century, sterling silver spoon was made by the Charles M. Robbins Company which produced among other things an extensive line of souvenir items. This piece is a commemorative of Wellesley College. It has a beaded stem ending in a Corinthian capital on top of which sits a disk on which in turn is set a raised seal of the school. Durgin's Heraldic nearly represents a compendium of heraldry. It incorporates a crown, a lion, a shield, a horse, and possibly a castle tower in a single assemblage. The end result is actually quite impressive and makes for a design that invites inspection. For sale is an unusual Atlantic City, New Jersey souvenir spoon by George W. Shiebler. The spoon measures 4 5/8 inches long and weighs 15 grams. The bowl has a light gold wash and a die-struck view of the Absecon lighthouse. The handle is shaped like waves, with "ATLANTIC CITY" in wavy letters on the handle front. This 5 1/2" long teaspoon was made by Mayer Brothers of Seattle, Washington and bears that company's mark on the reverse, along with the word "Sterling." It is a souvenir piece for the state of Idaho, and incorporates a remarkable number of landmark images as souvenir spoons are want to do. The state seal, Shoshone Falls, a mining scene, and a banner reading "syringa," for the state flower, are among the features represented. This item is in mint condition.

This 6 1/8" long, relatively light weight, sterling silver souvenir spoon is unusual on at least two counts. First, it was made by "Wm. Rogers Mfg. Co." (with a star emblem and the word Sterling) of Hartford, Connecticut. This was one of myriad companies that carried the Rogers name.
