Dietz, Illinois Highway Division Red Traffic Lantern. This old piece is not in top shape but it is very rare, and still displays very well, and I think would still work with very little TLC. Embossed on chimney cap with four stars plus, “8-DAY, & N.Y. U.S.A.”. Embossed in two lines around one side of the shoulder “PROPERTY OF ILLINOIS, DIVISION OF HIGHWAYS”. Appears to have been originally an olive green color and now has a beautiful patina of mild rust speckled around on it. Well maybe the rust... Click for details

On April 15, 1934, William Randolph Hearst,(newspaper magnate)launched the JUNIOR BIRDMAN OF AMERICA PROGRAM, open to all boys and girls with interest in aviation.Individuals between the ages of 10-15 were in category Group B and when they joined they received a silver membership wing shaped pin, 1 3/4" in length.Those older 16-21 received a gold pin.On the "blue" part of the pin it had JUNIOR BIRDMAN OF AMERICA.
