Handsome Malachite Base Mordan Postal Scales, c. 1880
Metalware: Brass
Richards Antiques
$750
Fine late Victorian English brass postal scale with malachite base by the renowned firm of Sampson Mordan & Co. These are particularly handsome because of the malachite which sits atop a larger piece of black marble. Looks great on a desk. Mordan was known, among other things, for making micromosaics and other items from colorful marbles. Ordinary Mordan postal scales are fairly common but the marble inlay ones are scarce. This scale is based on the ingenious Roberval principle which uses upper... Click for details

Sheaffer White Dot Desk Set 14kt Gold Nib
Writing Instruments: Fountain Pens
Al's Past Treasures
W2085 SOLD
This offering is for a great Sheaffer White Dot desk set. The black base is either onyx or marble and in excellent condition. Base measures 5" x 3.5". The pen has a 14kt gold nib and it is the "Lifetime" variety that was first introduced in 1943. I am not sure of the age of this set but believe it was at least prior to 1970. If this would help determine the age the nib reads "Sheaffer's Lifetime Reg. US Pat. Off. Made in USA 14K". And on the pen it is inscribed "W A SHEAFFER PEN CO. Fort Madison... Click for details

EARLY 1900'S MAGNIFYING GLASS READER
Americana and Country Primitives
Cloverleaf Cherishables
0287 $78.00 INCLUDES FREE SHIPPING
This was a very unique find. I knew this was some type of magnifying glass, but that was all. This type of glass is most difficult to find and one encased like this with felt on the bottom, is RARE indeed. Bought at an estate sale several years ago, it has been a knick-knack in my office. One day, my friend's 91-year-old mom noticed it. She told us that "it was used in schools to help the blind children read". This was probably one of the first examples of "READING GLASSES". It was actua... Click for details
