This place, aka dessert or oval soup, spoon measures 7" long and weighs approximately 1.0 T. oz.

It is appealing in several respects.

First is its pleasing form, with a broad, down turned, "Reverse Tipt" handle, oval bowl with a pointed end, and clean drop on the bowl back.

The name "H E Benedict" is engraved in handsome, feathered script, lettering set sideways on the handle.

Offered is a very nice early American coin silver teaspoon by noted Philadelphia silversmith and jeweler Nicholas Le Huray (or LeHuray) Jr., working circa 1821-46 in that city. Nicholas Junior's work is always desirable and usually very finely done. This spoon is no exception, with a lively period engraved script monogram, and nice proportions. Offered is a nice American coin silver salt spoon by well-known Lancaster watchmaker and silversmith Gottfried M. Zahm, part of a family dynasty of silversmiths and jewelers in Lancaster. This piece is marked G.M.ZAHM in a rectangular punch, and is engraved "CR" in period script for the original owner. Interestingly, the engraver slipped a bit and there is a line from the end of the R down the handle. This piece measures about 3 5/8 inches in length and weighs about 6 grams. Condition... NOT FOR SALE - Here's a challenge - a circa 1790-1810 American coin silver tablespoon marked only IS in a large serrated punch, with a nicely engraved period script monogram of GJM and a V-shaped drop. This piece measures about 9 1/2 inches in length and weighs about 59 grams. It came in a lot with a piece by Caleb Bentley of DC, VA and MD, and it has the look of rural VA, MD or PA. Identified in Crescent City Silver published by the "Historic New Orleans Collection," as either replacing or succeeding P. Zimmermann, Charles H. Zimmermann operated immediately following the Civil War, from 1866-70.

The same source indicates tht he was both a manufacturer and retailer. As this 7 3/8" long, 1.3 T. oz., "French Thread" aka "Fiddle Thread," coin silver master butter knife is marked "WwH" as well as "C.H. Zimmermann," it would have marketed by him but made by New York's... Click for details

Arguably the line by which all other Art Nouveau floral designs are measured, Durgin's 1900 "New Art" embodies the exuberance, lushness, and fullness of expression that characterizes this style mode.

Multi-motif, the portraiture on this 8 9/16" long, heavy at 4.1 T. oz., cold meat fork is lily. The blossoms and leaves fold over and upon one another, rising from of the surface of the silver as if sculped out of the material.
