length 6 inches, total Troy weight 9.1 ounces, marked and monogrammed as shown in enlargements, excellent condition. We also have dinner forks available, length 7 7/8 inches, weight 1.75 oz each.

To give these some historical perspective, consider that the high relief, elaborately detailed patterns such as New Art and Chrysanthemum didn't spring into existence out of nowhere. Early (1850-60's) die-struck designs such as this were the middle step between simple, swaged decoration and... Click for details

3617f   $195.00

A complete youth grouping, consisting of a 6 3/4" long knife, 5 7/8" long fork, and 6 1/16" long spoon, 2.7 T. oz. combined weight, this set was made by New York City's John Wendt, and retailed by "Ball, Black & Co.," with whom Wendt was closely affiliated.

The pattern is "Medallion" dating from the 1860s, and features Wendt's young male figure on the fork and spoon, and his less commonly found female image on the knife.

The high relief portraiture remains crisp and sharply defined on all... Click for details

12 Whiting Art Nouveau "Grape" Sterling Silver Coffee Spoons
Silver : Sterling : Flatware

Old Friends
3616f   $110.00

A non-line pattern, these twelve, matching, 4" long, 3.5 T. oz. the lot, likely cast handle rather than die struck, coffee spoons are as singular as they are appealing.

Made by Whiting, the company's "lion" emblem and "Sterling" are stamped on the backside of each piece.

Probably dating from the late 19th century, and toward Art Nouveau in manner, the pattern features a stylized, raised grape cluster and leaf motif on the terminal end. The lower section of the handle has an also raised... Click for details

height 3; diameter 4 inches, weight 7.11 Troy ounces, excellent original condition, monogrammed as shown in second enlargement. A great design which makes use of both applied and repoussé'd decoration.

These come and go, but I don't think we've ever owned one where the chasing is so crisp and the original oxidation hasn't been at least partially removed by some overzealous owner.

Finally, for those of you who favor comparison shopping, see item 223105898219 on the big bad auction... Click for details

Cliff Nunn - Antique Silver and Decorative Arts
20180908-03   $39.50

Offered is a lovely old American coin silver table spoon by a maker who doesn't seem to have been documented, using the maker's mark R.MERRICK in a serrated punch. Examples of this man's work are in the Winterthur collection, with no location posited. It is evident, however, from the crudeness of the punch that a large-city origin point is unlikely. This piece is faintly engraved JK in period script. This tablespoon measures about 9 1/4 inches in length and weighs about 50 grams. The... Click for details

20180908-02   $25.00

Offered is a nice American coin silver teaspoon by Kentucky silversmith James S. Sharrard, who purportedly started off in business in Georgetown, KY circa 1838, was in Paris, KY in 1840, and settled in Shelbyville, KY by 1841, working there until 1856, when he moved to Henderson, KY and worked there with his sons until about 1863. After that he resided in Louisville, KY until his death in 1880. By style, it is likely this spoon dates to the 1838-50 period, making a Shelbyville origin for this... Click for details

Vintage GORHAM Hand painted Bisque Ceramic MUSICAL BROWN OWLS FIGURINE Music Box. Measures roughly 6" tall by 4" wide at the bottom and plays a pretty tune, but I'm not sure of the name of the tune, when wound up. On/Off Lever on the back. He is in excellent vintage condition with no cracks, chips or damage. The only issue is the music plays a teeny bit on the slow side, (but maybe its just meant to be a slow song) but it does work just fine.
