Bee Salt & Pepper Shakers

Marked Japan in black. They measure approximately 5 1/2" in height and 4 1/2" in width which is a very large size for salt and pepper shakers. As you can see, there are a lot of problems with the finish of the wings because they were coated with something that feels almost like plastic, and it has not held up well at all. The black paint used in the grooves is gone from one and the other one is losing it. There is one area where the manufacturer missed the glaze on one eye. There are no... Click for details

Let's stop right there. I don't for a moment believe that this item was made in Boston. Most everything about it: the floral four toed feet, chased foliage with "ring matted" background (see Forbes, plate 41), silversmith's center punch on the top (see fourth photo), the overall heft and construction suggest that it was made in Canton province. Can I prove it? No, not yet at any rate. Diameter, 8.5"; height .75"; weight 14.0 oz. Troy; a few minor scratches and dents but excellent... Click for details

1 quart canister/apothecary jar. There is no manufacturer's mark, could be Owens Illinois. For some reason, I keep thinking it was sold containing something like Tang or coffee. I may very well be mistaken on that fact. It has a lovely incised fleur de lis design repeated 4 times on the body and a small version on the lid. No chips, cracks, breaks or damage to the glass, however, the plastic seal on the lid is showing age, but is still functional with no cracks. 2 are available. I need... Click for details
