Original Gorham
click for details
An early 20th century design, Gorham's "Old French was a well-received pattern that remains popular today. The simplicity of the lined border, slightly bulbous design provided a visual respite to the flourish of Art Nouveau style dominant in the period, as well as the congestion of some immediately preceding-in-time Victorian forms.

This example is a 6 3/4" long fruit knife. It is an original item, factory made and original issue.

It has a sterling silver hollow handle attached to a... Click for details

He had a shop on Bridge Street (now M Street) in Georgetown. Villard was born circa 1794, probably the third son of French emigre parents Andre and Sophie Villard. Offered is a worn but interesting early American coin silver tea spoon by noted Baltimore silversmith Thomas Warner (1780-1828). This piece bears interesting marks in addition to Warner's maker's mark; the spoon is marked STERG to denote the use of sterling standard silver, and is also marked with Thomas Warner's eagle head pseudo hallmark. This spoon measures about 5 11/16 inches in length and weighs about 20 grams. It is an early example of the use of the fiddlethread pattern in American... Click for details

Offered is an early American coin silver teaspoon by Jacob Bear, working in Lexington, VA circa 1823-60 and then located in Rockingham, VA in 1861. Jacob Bear's mark is rarely seen, despite his long working life. The maker's mark on this teaspoon is a bit rubbed but still quite legible. This spoon measures about 5 3/8 inches in length and weighs about 14 grams. The spoon probably dates to the 1820s or 1830s. Condition is fair at best, as the original monogram has been erased and a later... Click for details

Philadelphia Coin Silver Dessert Spoon with Rare Unpublished Mark

Offered is a lovely American coin silver dessert spoon made by Philadelphia silversmiths Jehu and William L. Ward, dating to circa 1837-50. The unusual aspect of this piece is the maker's mark - an oval mark similar to others used in by other makers in Philadelphia, but very rare for the Wards. The mark is mentioned by Hollan in "Philadelphia Silversmiths", but not one example had been found, until now. This piece measures about 7 3/8 inches in length and weighs a solid 32 grams, or about one... Click for details

Offered is a good American coin silver condiment spoon (salt, mustard, or something else) by Hannah Robinson of Wilmington, DE (1803-78). See page 250 of the book "Delaware Silver" for a very similar piece identified as a salt spoon, and note several pieces with the same mark (the "H" is worn off this spoon, but the letters in "ROBINSON" match the ones in the book minutely). This spoon is in very good condition overall, with a good period engraved script monogram and a worn but legible maker's... Click for details

Unusual Coin Silver Teaspoon by Joseph Shoemaker of Philadelphia

Unusual Coin Silver Teaspoon by Joseph Shoemaker of Philadelphia
click for details
Offered is an unusual example of an early American coin silver spoon made in the workshop of Joseph Shoemaker but also struck with a large mark of a "T" - the mark could be a journeyman's, but is so large and placed in such a way as to undercut Shoemaker's maker's mark. As such it is unlikely the mark was on the spoon when it was first marked by Shoemaker. It is possible the spoon was resold by someone else, but the most likely explanation is that it was an inventory stamp within the family. ... Click for details

Flawless Bright Cut Sterling Silver Napkin Ring

Standing 1 5/8" tall, with a diameter of 1 11/16", and weighing just under .7 T. oz., this is a generously sized napkin ring.

Inscribed M.H.W., Mar. 18, '05" in an elegant script, the aesthetic style floral and fern engraving on a satin matte surface with knurled banding suggest the piece actually predates the inscription by as much as twenty years.

The central band is offset by two troughs which are in turn bordered by imprinted repeating star designs with rolled edges.
