Articles: Periods and Styles

For many Antiques and Collectibles, particularly those in the Furniture and "Furnishings and Accessories" categories, an era or period is often associated with the item.

The following is a general guide correlating various years and the "Period" or "Style" with which it is frequently associated. As an additional reference, the periods of reign for British Monarchs is also listed.

There have been four major spheres of regional influence throughout recent history: British(B), French(F), German(G) and American(US).

The listed years are indicative of a general agreement and accepted usage for the periods stated. They should therefore be considered to contain the prefix "circa", with no definitive clear beginning or end. In many cases the same styles will have been popular in different areas at different times. As such, there are often overlaps; such as in the case of a British Monarchs' reign not coinciding exactly with the derived Period or Style. Where suitable, an abbreviation in parantheses has been used to indicate the particular region of popularity or usage for that period of time.
