This is the "Great Lakes Bulletin" newspaper from the U.S. Naval training center at Great Lakes, Illinois. The date is April 13,1945. The headline is "Death Claims President Roosevelt". This is the complete original newspaper as far as I can tell. It has been folded in half for many years but otherwise it is in good condition. There are a few tiny holes along the fold and some pages but it is in good shape for paper, lasting 66 years.
The paper also gives other Naval news. It discusses the latest WW II news to that date, including maps of Okinawa and Berlin. It has a photo of first Marines to leave the casualty train from Iwo Jima. The slogan chalked on the coach which carried these wounded veterans to Great Lakes Hospital was --"BACK ALIVE IN '45". On the back page are photos of the Naval training center radio programs, "Bluejacket Choir". This would make a great gift for the historian or history buff. A history teacher could use it in the classroom to make history come alive. Very interesting reading. Thank you for checking out Lemon Tree Treasures and looking at our WWII Naval Newspaper about President Roosevelt's death. Come back soon.
