PAIRPOINT AMERICAN BRILLIANT CUT GLASS JEWELRY BOX 1900

This is the larger size of American Brilliant Cut glass jewelry boxes produced by Pairpoint in the Garland pattern, measuring 7.25 inches wide at the bottom, 6.5 inches wide across the lid, and standing 4 inches high. The Garland pattern is identified by the floral spray on the lid, the deeply fluted outer edges, and the complex bottom starburst. The bottom edge is further detailed with fine cross-hatching. This elegant piece is intact with no chips or cracks in the glass. The silverplate rings have some wear and tarnish mostly on the outer exposed surface. The back hinge and front thumb lift are intact. We have not attempted to polish the rings. The bottom has minor scuffing, not surprising given the age of this piece. (We have never seen one of these heavy ABC boxes without signs of use on the bottom, very rarely seen one that has no chips to the glass or damage to the rings and hinge, and NEVER seen one that is not losing the powdery grout that originally cemented the crystal into the hinge rings). At some point a previous owner must have had the crystal pieces re-set into the rings because we cannot detect signs of the old grout. The crystal halves are very securely set in the rings. Excellent, accurate glass cutting artistry and heavy crystal-clear "white" glass were the Pairpoint specialty, and are the reason their ABC pieces are so highly regarded.
