GORGEOUS PAIRPOINT creamy white dresser box, quatrefoil form with large floral cartouche and thick gilt highlights, entirely hand painted with wonderful accuracy. The lid and base are hinged together with a lacquered silverplate collar. The floral cartouche on the lid is a delicate bouquet of roses and asters. The painting may have been done by the C. F. Monroe Company of Meriden CT, which was known to have decorated the Wavecrest glass wares with the same motifs. This box is made of very thick satin glass and is quite heavy. It measures 6.5 inches long, 4 inches wide, and 3.25 inches high. The inner bottom liner of ruched dark red silk satin is still present. There are small marks inside where jewelry must have once lain against the glass (probably silver items because the little marks are dark gray). There are a few such pencil-like marks on the bottom. The silverplate collar has tarnish mostly on its outer surface. There is a fine hairline on the bottom running from near the left front footpad, and diagonally over to the right rear footpad and up the corner's side - PLEASE SEE THE PHOTO WITH THE RED ARROWS POINTING TO THIS HAIRLINE. The box is still sound but should get some attention from a professional restorer to seal the hairline securely. Without the hairline, it would be valued at around $400+. Stamped on bottom "The Pairpoint Corp. 3909". The hallmark was overstamped for some reason, and although the first digit of the pattern number was smeared, it is known to be a "3" because there were only 2 such boxes produced by Pairpoint. (The other Pairpoint matching dresser box was # 3910 and measured 7"x7" square). Shipping insurance is strongly recommended for this item.
