ACROSS THE ATLANTIC Hamburg-American Line
This is a catalog of the Hamburg- American Steamship Lines. It is a "photographic reproduction of the Company's various types of steamers comprised in the Transatlantic service". Almost like a stock prospectus, this wonderful book lists the types and tonnage of its entire fleet as well as the corporate history. The booklet is divided into chapters based on sister ships of the same class. There is a photo (or drawing) of the ship at sea, text about the class as well as many photos of the luxurious interiors. The ships highlighted are: Deutschland, Amerika & Kaiserin Auguste Victoria, Cincinnati & Cleveland, President Grant& President Lincoln, Pennsylvania, Pretoria, Patricia & Graf Waldersee, Moltke, Hamburg & Bluecher, and Koenig Wilhelm II, Kronprinzessin Cecile, Furst Bismark, Oceania and Meteor. The final section is devoted to the "prinz" class of steamers, which transversed the waters of America- the Caribbean islands and around South America. This wonderful book, circa 1910 and printed in NYC, exemplifies the golden age ocean travel and is a must for the serious collector. The Book is 6" x 7.5" with about 80 pages. It is in very good condition, excepting the tear in the cover (we have the piece but have not repaired it).
