Grandma's Gun by Patricia Miles Martin
Vintage hard cover book published in 1968 (assuming First Edition as no date stated) by Golden Gate Junior Books. In 1846, when California belonged to Mexico, Juan brought the message to his Grandmother that the Americans were marching on Pueblo, Ca. the town that they lived in. Their only means of defense was a very old cannon; however it could not be fired as there was no powder available. Juan and the towns' people moved the cannon to Grandmas farm and buried it so that it could not be captured. A story that is filled with excitement turns out for the best.
