ABOUT: Beautiful and whimsical Shiebler and Tiffany Sterling silver Pin or Brooch in the highly collectible Etruscan Medallion motif, depicting homeric soldier with helmet and laurel above a hammered background with textured sides. Incredible detail! I believe it was made by Shiebler for the retailer Tiffany & Co. or vice versa, as it is stamped with both marks! BEST of the BEST here when it comes to makers and retailers of the time. I have a few Shielber brooch / pins and a chatelaine / watch fob clip by Shiebler so please check out my other listings! Similar listings have the Medallion pieces dating to the late 1800s period so I am guessing it is sometime in that range, but would not be any newer than 1910 as that is when Shiebler was dissolved. Beautiful object of virtu that could be worn, or displayed in a prestigious Sterling Silver collection, as these pieces are highly sought after due to their unique hand finished design and will likely only go up in value. HALLMARKS: Marked on the back with the Shiebler hallmark, Tiffany & Co. along with "Sterling" and the number 607. IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES: Was polished as shown when I received it and I didn't want to clean it too aggressively as I wanted to avoid any damage. So there is some tarnish but I like the age appropriate patina that provides relief to the figures. I see no deep wear or scratches to the front which is amazing considering age. Some faint surface wear if anything and a few deeper scratches to the back. Some tarnish spots on the pin post. Hinge feels a bit loose from age and use, so it does not spring super tightly into the clasp but it seems to hold. One slight bend to the post closest to the hinge so please see photos closely. No bends to the designed silverwork, no dings or dents. But due to age, this is not a mint condition item. There are two stripes on the shoulder that is part of the design, these are not scratches. Lots of years left in this highly collectible item. MEASUREMENTS: Nice size, Pin measures about 3 1/4 inches in length by about 1 1/8" tall at the medallion portion with the face. It weighs a sturdy 17 grams of solid sterling silver so this is not a flimsy or easily bendable piece.
