ABOUT: Love the whimsical design on this Dominick and Haff enamel accented serving pieces in the Renaissance pattern. My husband and I use our Renaissance piece especially at the holidays because the face on both the handle and the back side looks like Santa Claus : ) These are over 9 inches each and HEAVY / sturdy pieces. This pattern dates to 1894 and was designed by Gilbert L. Crowell, Jr., so this set dates to that time frame or early 1900s at the latest. It's an interesting pattern on its own and made more eye catching by the green, yellow and white enamel accents. Faint single initial monogram of the letter C (I think?) on each handle. The spoon has a slightly scalloped shape. Really impressive high quality pieces that would make a fantastic statement on any table. MEASUREMENTS: The spoon measures about 9" in length, the bowl is about 2 1/2" in width or so at the widest part. The fork measures 8 3/4" in length and the area of the tines is 2" in width as well at the widest part. Super sturdy, set weighs a combined 228 grams. MARKS AND PATTERNS: Marked "Sterling" with the Dominick and Haff hallmarks. IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES: Please note this set is in estate condition with some all over surface wear and scratches from use and polishing over the years. They have been professionally polished so there is little of the faint surface wear, but some underlying utensil nicks and deeper utensil scratches from use remain on both sides of the pieces. I have tried to show this in the photos that they were clearly used over the years. There are also some areas of enamel loss, the most notable being on the stem of the spoon where most of the white is missing. But I was pleased to see the "Santa" faces on both sides are still very sharp and crisp and much of the vibrant and colorful enamel remains. No damage or scratching to any of the silver artwork or design, and there are no pin dings or indentations on the pieces as they are thick and sturdy. NO BENDS AT ALL WHERE THEY DON'T BELONG, they have held their shape perfectly through their age of 100 years. It seems to be just the smooth areas of the bowl and the back of the bowls where any wear is made more evident by the mirrored finish. But Please note as all my pieces are pre-owned estate pieces - this set is not in mint condition.
