ABOUT: Very interesting form that I have not seen before. Fantastic trophy? or perhaps a gravy boat, bon bon, nut or sugar dish / bowl made by Durgin, one of the finest makers of the time, dating to the turn of the century! Very nice quality in an interesting ship / boat / gondola form. Dated 1906 with no other personalizations which made me wonder if it was given at a boat race or something. I am unsure of its history but it is a nice size that would hold candies or nuts or be used as a quite literal gravy boat with a ladle. : ). Has a goldwashed vermeil sheen to the inside. I love movement of the piece with the curved edges of the gondola extending upward. Would make a lovely accent to your table or a beautiful gift! It would fit with a mid century modern or antique collection. Perfect for adding interesting pieces to a table setting. Marked on the bottom with a date May 7, 1906 which provides a nice provenance. No personalizations, names or initial monograms. MEASUREMENTS: It measures about 6 inches in length, it is about 3 3/4 wide and stand 4 3/4 inches tall to the highest point and weighs 110 grams. MARKS: Marked Sterling on the underside with the Durgin makers' mark and a retailers stamp. IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES: Please note that due to age, this piece is in estate condition with surface wear and scratches from use and polishing over the years. I see uniform scuffs and linear scratches on the flat bottom where it meets the table. There are two deeper dings on the tall side but it is on the curved underside of the boat so not super noticeable. A few other very shallow pin dings in other areas but it is a pretty sturdy piece so the dings are more visible from the inside than from the outside. There are some surface scuffs and scratches on the outside and a few stubborn tarnish spots along with a few deeper linear scratches here or there made more noticeable by the mirrored finish of the piece. The piece does not teeter, it stands sturdily and the curved bows of the boat look great. Many years left in this fantastic piece! But again Please note this is not in mint condition.
