ABOUT: Lovely antique sterling piece by Durgin. Beautiful ink well with glass insert. Incredible 3D dimension on the repousse flowers. The ink well is missing the lid. The piece is dated 1892. It has a 3-initial monogram on the underside not visible when in use but seen when flipped over and looking at the marks. MEASUREMENTS: The small ink well measures 2 1/2" tall with a base diameter a little under 1 1/2". It weighs 42 grams without the heavy glass insert and 95 grams with the glass bottle inside. MARKS AND PATTERNS: Marked Sterling on the back with the old Durgin hallmark. IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES: Please note this is in estate condition with some surface wear and scratching. The hinge flips open just right and the glass insert nests inside perfectly. I see one shallow pin ding on the side but it has held its shape well for the most part and is a sturdy piece. No really noticeable deep dents and the rim has still held its shape. Some scuffs and scratches noticeable to the smooth mirrored underside by the mark from contact with the table. There are a few faint / cloudy tarnish spots that are very light and mostly inside in the hard to polish corners, not a lot of dark tarnish. The heavy glass insert in the ink well has some discoloration and stains, there is some calcification inside giving it a cloudy appearance and some stains and scratches but the glass is very thick and I see no cracks. Just a few areas where the glass has bubbled or is rough. Feel free to email me and I can send more photos. No damage or scratching, no dings or dents to any of the repousse artwork or design, it seems to be just the smooth areas where any wear is made more evident by the mirrored finish. Stands perfectly square and sturdy, it does not teeter at all. But Please note this piece is not in mint condition. It was polished like this when I received it. Amazing to behold a piece over 125 years old still looking so beautiful today.
