ABOUT: This cute Art Deco era piece comes from Tiffany's youth or juvenile line - "Nursery Rhyme". Here we have a fun and whimsical cup or mug in the Jack and Jill motif. VERY sturdy / heavy piece. I have a Tiffany nursery rhyme flatware set so please check out my other listings. NO MONOGRAMS ON THE CUP! Fantastic depiction of Jack and Jill, I believe it is acid etched because the inside of the cup is smooth / thick silver. Has a linear detail around the rim and a sturdy hand feel with a handle in an art deco or even mid century modern design feel - Very nice quality typical of Tiffany & Co. It would make an excellent gift or keepsake, or even for every day use for a whimsical table, the quality is fantastic. MEASUREMENTS: The cup stands just under 2 1/2 inches tall. The rim opening is 2 1/4", The wider base is over 2 1/2" in diameter. It measures about 3 1/4 inches wide from the edge of the cup to the edge of the handle. It weighs 133 grams according to my little digital scale, so dense / thick silver for its size. MARKS AND PATTERNS: Marked Tiffany & Co. Makers Sterling Silver 925-1000 on the bottom.
The date mark tells us the manufacture year was between 1907-1947. IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES: Please note the piece is in estate condition with surface wear and scratching commensurate with age. There are areas of stubborn tarnish and discoloration, some surface wear and scratching from use and polish. There is one section of the base rim that has two shallow indentations, the area is about an inch in length and does not affect the usefulness of the item. It sits sturdily on the table and the base is not visible when in use but I pointed to this wear in photos. Nice patina in the background to make the designs stand out. The piece has all over wear and scratches from use and polishing over the years. A few stubborn tarnish spots inside the cup as well. No damage to any of the artwork or design, it seems to be just the smooth areas where any wear is made more evident by the mirrored finish, and then the ding to the base rim. Still MANY years left in this fantastic sturdy piece. BUT Please note this is not in mint condition. Has been lightly hand polished. and could have some tarnish removed further, but I like to leave patina so the designs really stand out so I will leave the rest to the buyer.
