Here is a very rare piece - an antique Victorian era French solid sterling silver handled dish / porringer or fondue pot. It even has a formed pourer on the one side and a fantastically turned wood handle. I believe the handle is ebony as it is a very dark wood. The mistletoe is applied and not repousse, making the inside of the bowl smooth and sturdy. Using the hallmarks for information, this was made by Adolphe Boulenger who operated in Paris from 1876 to 1899, so a true Victorian era piece. Rare to find mistletoe decorated serving pieces, most of what I find are smaller items. And especially of this age and quality - it would be a beautiful and very unique accent to your holiday table. It works very well with the vibrant silver, being one of the colors of the holiday season. I wish I could keep it but it is not a need for me. NO MONOGRAMS on it. MEASUREMENTS: It weighs 240 grams, but not all of that is silver weight with the wooden handle. It is about 9 1/2 inches in length total from the edge of the bowl to the tip of the handle, with the opening of the dish being about 4 and 1/4 inches in diameter and then the sides of the bowl round out slightly. It holds about 2 cups capacity, maybe 2 1/2 cups if you fill it to overflowing. MARKS: It is marked with the French minerva head mark for solid sterling silver items. There is also a silversmith punch to the underside for Boulenger as mentioned above. IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES: Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned with some age to them so they are in estate condition. The dish has a some dings around the inside bottom giving it a slightly rippled appearance in two places (one with 5 linear dings and the other with pinhead dings) - the two areas affected measure about 2 inches in length each. They aren’t as visible from the outside because it is a pretty thick piece so the outside of the bowl (opposite where the wear is inside) shows three linear dings, and then the other area with pock marks / pinhead nicks. It also has some utensil nicks and scratches all around and a few cloudy spots on the inside base from tarnish. Quite a bit of scratching to the smooth base from rubbing against the table. The wood handle has two nicks to it but is otherwise perfectly turned. Just being picky so you have all the details but it presents beautifully. The rim and pour spout are still perfectly formed. I don't see any damage to any of the mistletoe designs. The handle does not rattle, the silver and the wood are affixed together firmly and tightly. It is mostly the smooth areas that show the wear made more evident by the mirrored finish. Please note that due to age this piece is not in mint condition.
