A wonderful old sewing basket in good condition considering the age. It is approximately 9 1/2" deep and across, not including the handle. The handle is wooden and covered in the same woven design as the basket. The covering is loose on one end (needs some glue). The inside is covered in a taffeta-like red fabric; the lid is tufted and has little pearls sewn at the corners of each tufted square. There is a strip of banding down the middle with a little loop...I suppose this held something at one time. Three hat pins(?) are still sticking in the lid just like when I bought it. There is braiding around the top edge of the bottom and also on the inside of the lid. The elastic pieces, which prevent the lid from falling back, are slightly "stretched". There is some wear at the very base of the lid on the inside, looks as if it rubbed each time it was opened and closed this can be seen in my picture. The label at the top reads "An exclusive PENNEY'S Fashion". The base of the basket is a round wooden circle and is imprinted "Made in Japan". There are three little half-round "feet". This basket is finished with tiny, tiny nails! The heavy plastic insert tray is cracked and actually has a hole in it but still fits tight and serves the purpose. A great old piece! Please send zip with inquiry and I will figure shipping. Click on Homepage for purchasing instructions.
