Very interesting old book published in 1909! Character Lessons in American Biography for Public Schools and Home Instruction by James Terry White, prepared in response to the general demand for a better moral instruction in the public schools for The Character Development League. "The aim of Moral Instruction is to form Character; and Character is the unconscious obedience to Conscience"...Abraham Lincoln. Included on the first page is a reproduction of E. H. Blashfield's mural painting in the Great Hall of the College of the City of New York entitled "Graduation". The poem, "Graduation" by James Terry White is on the 2nd page. On the next page is a complete explanation of the painting, which I found most interesting! The lessons in this book, written nearly 100 years ago, could well be used today! How to instill Obedience, Honesty, Truthfulness, Unselfishness, Sympathy, Consecration to Duty, Industry, Perseverance, Patience, Self-Respect, etc. in the student. Considering the book is almost 100 years old, it is in pretty good shape. I took a picture inside the front cover which shows the binding needing some repair. All pages intact, no tears. Hardcover, 10 1/2" x 7 1/4". Shipping included in USA.
