This stunning purse is a wonderful example of Victorian beadwork and is in superb condition. It measures 7" long, excluding the handle, and approximately7.5" wide at the widest point, holding the beads out, but not stretching them unnaturally.
First, let me point out the two flaws I can find. The red ribbon binding inside the purse that covers the stitches holding the lining to the bag is coming off. A matter of age, I'm sure. Also, the catch no longer works well. I believe some portion to be missing. That's it as far as I can tell.
The beadwork is in perfect condition on both sides and on the bottom of the bag. The colors are rich, deep, and lovely. The velvet handle appears original and is in very good shape. The lining is all intact and perfect. The tortoiseshell-like top of the purse is very nice. The purse is marked with a Z. I don't know who the maker might be.
