Set consists of 3 pieces: pot, sugar bowl and creamer -- cast basket-of-flower finials on pot and sugar, amidst repousse shells and flowers on domed lids (see pix). Each piece has an 8-lobed body, with applied bands at shoulder and base; the set has never been engraved. Pot is 10-1/2" high x 11-3/8 across handle and spout. Total weight is 73 Troy oz.

Round bowl with matte gold-washed interior, on round pedestal base; applied leaf-&-berry bands at rim and base; engraved in script on side of bowl: Nelly/Jan. 17th, 1872. Marked on bottom: Ball, Black & Co., New York; also marked: 202/ English Sterling. Compote is 8" in diameter, 6-1/8" high, and weighs 18.5 Troy oz. Condition throughout is excellent.

Both made by R&W Wilson, Phila -- Inscribed in cartouche: Presented to/Linda Venable/as a reward of merit/by the trustees of the/Public School/1861. Similar sentiments of 2nd mug. Both with floral repousse bodies; one 4" high, 2nd 3-1/2" high. Both in excellent condition.

Baluster form with knurled band applied at base, feathered script mono C on side; 3-1/2" tall, 3" diameter at rim. Later date 1822 engraved on bottom (see pic). Overall condition is excellent. Similar, although smaller, pair of beakers is shown on p. 24 of "Simple Elegance," a catalog of Newburyport silversmiths published by the Historical Society of Old Newbury.

Handled cup with 12 panels on raised ring fitted on 16-paneled saucer, also on raised ring, both engraved in feathered script RM over GBM. Dimensions as follows: cup 2-5/8" high, saucer 5-1/4" diameter; total weight is an imposing 7.25 Troy oz. Condition is excellent throughout. Which, of course, leaves open the question: what is the purpose of an uninsulated silver cup and saucer? One answer is that, in an opulent household, it was used for display, nothing more.
