Pointed-end handle, c1790 -- reverse rib, feathered script mono F L on front; 5-3/8" long. Condition of this piece, both spoon and bird, is near-mint -- extended bowl tip unworn, even the bird's feathers are intact.

This is a huge piece -- 15-3/8" long. It has an oval-end handle, which ordinarily means that it was made c1790. But circumstances suggest that it was probably made 10 years earlier. Here is what we can glean from the literature: In Stamford, Jarvis was a silversmith and blacksmith. He was also a British loyalist and, at the end of the Revolution in 1783, he fled to New Brunswick. There he was a merchant, says Belden. Pointed-end handle, c1790 -- large and unusual oval drop with rib running through its center (see pic); reverse rib on back of handle, brightcut and roulette cartouche with feathered script mono JPA. Length is 15", round bowl is 4" in diameter, weight is 6-1/4 Troy oz. Condition is near-mint.

Long rattail on bowl back over Wynkoop's heart mark, still crisp after 300 year (see pic). Block mono is L over M (device) S on reverse. Length is 7-3/4". Overall condition is remarkably fine, no discernible wear at all.
