Set of 6 forward-tipt fiddle-handled teaspoons with flared shoulders. Feathered script mono J.L.C. on front; 5-7/8" long, excellent condition. NOTE: In putting together the book on North Carolina silversmiths, Cutten assumed that the N.C. following the Hanna mark referred to North Carolina, and that silver found with the mark was made by an unidentified NC smith. Not until some years later did the truth out...

Ellis worked with his brother William. You can find him listed in Whisker and on the internet at American Silversmiths. The mark shown here -- E. Baily in script -- is heretofore unknown, at least to us. This pair of teaspoons have downturned fiddle handles with pointed shoulders. The mono is R B in a feathered script. Length is 5-5/8". Condition is near-mint, extended bowl tips unworn.

This is a rare variation of the coffin-end style, and it appears to be limited to Utica silversmiths. Instead of the handle end being clipped, it was given a notched corner. This piece is in excellent condition, has the feathered script mono EG on its front, and is 9" in length.

Shell bowl, crisp pattern both sides, gothic mono G on reverse; 7-1/8" long. Condition is excellent throughout.

Tapered cylinder with beaded bands applied at rim and base; never engraved; 4" tall, 3-1/8" diameter; 5.5 T oz. Condition is excellent.

In the beaded-edge pattern -- 14-1/2" blade in shape of fish and 13-1/2" fork with 2-3/4" tines. Weight is a hefty 12.5 T oz. Condition is near-mint throughout. This set is suitable for serving salmon, sturgeon, and perhaps a big-muddy catfish with a minimum weight of 20 pounds.

Pointed-end handles, c1790 -- large double-molded drop on bowl back (see pic), feathered script mono J C B on front; 9" in length. Weight is 3-1/2 Troy oz. One has light tipwear, the other in excellent condition. These spoons are said to have come from the Bradford family of Plymouth, Mass.

Pointed-end handle, c1795 -- pointed-arch drop on bowl back, light reverse rib, shaded feathered script mono A V P on front; 8-3/4" in length, each 2 Troy oz in weight. Condition is near-mint.

Pointed-end handle, c1790 -- long narrow drop on bowl back, block mono H * B on front; 5" long. Condition is excellent - extended bowl tips unworn.

Oval-end handles, c1795 -- brightcutting and roulette work entire length of handle, block mono in I C in cartouche on front; 9" in length. Birds are a tad worn but spoons are in great shape, brightcutting still crisp, marks (M&R) as clear as the day they were struck.

Teaspoon and tablespoon with similar birds struck on bowl backs, each with a laurel wreath in its beak. The teaspoon is 5" long, with square shoulders and a feathered script mono C C on the front of the handle. It is marked with the maker's full name: D.WEATHERLY. The tablespoon (or serving spoon) is 9-5/8" long, with square shoulders and a feathered script mono S C G. It is struck twice with the maker's initial mark: D.W (see pic)...

Oval-end fiddle handles, c1830 -- large flared shoulders, script mono O M L (or S)on front; 8-3/4" in length, good weight. Condition is near-mint, no tipwear at all. Mark is I.MUNROE in serrated rectangle, one with the pseudohallmark of a rampant lion.
