When these tongs were made, Chittenden was working in New Haven. The tongs have cast extensions on the fiddlethread arms, ending in shell nips (see pic); there is a feathered script mono A T R on the bend. Length of the tongs is 5-3/4". Condition throughout is excellent. Mark is B C, struck on both arms. It may be found in Hammerslough's tome on Connecticut silver.

Pointed-end handle, brightcut bellflowers extending half-way down handle, incised pointed arch drop on bowl back, feathered script mono J C B in cartouche on front, later script 1793-1895 on reverse -- probably the longevity of JCB, a grand total of 102 years. Length of spoon is 8-3/4. Weight is nearly 2 T oz. Condition is near-mint throughout -- extended bowl tip unworn.

Pointed-end handle brightcut its entire length, slashed drop, feathered script mono E R in cartouche on front; 5-7/16" long. Lamson presents a bit of a mystery, although he's listed in various books -- Belden, Flynt & Fales, "Maryland Silver," etc. Thorn gives a pretty good representation of his initial mark, which is picked up by Kovel, and is shown in one of the pix associated with this piece...

Two spoons made 20-25 years apart with 2 different marks, both cited in Darling's NY State Silversmiths.
1. 18thC, c1790 - pointed end, interesting double roulette drop, shaded block mono SM in cartouche on front; 9-1/8" long. Mark is J B (see pic).
2. Downturned fiddle handle, c1810-15 - no shoulders, long drop, ornate feathered script R C M on front; 9-1/2" long, extended bowl tip unworn. Mark is J. Bedford (see pic).
