$175

We come across these small coffin-end ladles -- mustards, gravy, sauce -- from time to time and they all seem to be made in New England, particularly in the City of Providence. It is for that reason (and the lack of any other candidate) that we attribute this neat piece to William Burr (see pix of WB mark). This ladle has a cut-cornered fiddle end and is 5-1/4" long. The mono is C L in feathered script. Condition is excellent throughout.

Set of 6 $150

Made by Sigourney & Hitchcock, Watertown, NY, for the Jeff. Co. Agl. Soc. (see pix). Watertown is the center of Jefferson County in upstate NY. Description of the spoons is as follows: forward-tipt fiddle handles, flared shoulders, 6" in length. Condition is very good - a few bowl dings and very little wear. Agricultural premium silver is always interesting as an artifact of 19thC rural American history.

$50

Downturned fiddle handle, almost coffin-end in shape, square shoulders, ornate feathered script L R on front; 8-1/4" long. Bit of tipwear and a few shallow bowl bumps, but it has a well struck mark and is in overall good condition. Abel's work, along with Enoch's, is the least commonly found among the Moulton boys (Lydia's work being even rarer, of course). We have a bunch of Moulton and other Newburyport silver, dating forward from the mid-18thC. Inquiries are welcomed, to b ...click for details

Set of 6 $200

Set of 6 forward-tipt fiddle-handled teaspoons with flared shoulders. Feathered script mono J.L.C. on front; 5-7/8" long, excellent condition. NOTE: In putting together the book on North Carolina silversmiths, Cutten assumed that the N.C. following the Hanna mark referred to North Carolina, and that silver found with the mark was made by an unidentified NC smith. Not until some years later did the truth out. You can read about the Hanna department store in New Castle by typing the appro ...click for details

$65

Marked by John Fitton Gibbs, son of well documented John Gibbs -- marvelously elongated coffin-end handle, tiny sugarloaf shoulders, feathered script mono P B on front; 5-5/8" long. Mark is incompletely struck, but it is readable, and clearly the same as that shown in book on Old Deerfield silver, p. 226. Trace of tipwear, but otherwise in excellent condition.
