Marked S.C. SPAULDING; also marked JANESVILL (no E) WIS, and also COIN. Spaulding was the retailer of this piece. It's also struck with 3 pseudos, the marks of the maker, Hall, Hewson in Albany. Description as follows: forward-tipt fiddle handle, flared shoulders, script mono Gray on front of handle, 8-5/8" long. It is in excellent condition, bowl unworn. On the basis of style (wide stubby fiddle handle and unusual high angular shoulders), we've attributed this piece to B.B. Hastings of Cleveland. The ladle is 6-1/8" long and the mono is I.A.A. in feathered script. Aside from an incompletely struck mark, condition is excellent.

Made (or retailed) by N. J. Gilman of Portland, c1850-60 -- double-swell fiddle handle, large flared shoulders, presentation script engraving on front: Mr & Mrs John Brackett to Mr & Mrs H. M. Brackett. This piece is 13-1/2" long, has a 4-1/4" oval bowl and is 8-1/2 T oz. Condition is outstanding, even with a small test mark at one of the shoulders.

This is a very early piece of silver from the north country. It has a classic coffin-end handle, with a light reverse rib, the mono is S V M in feathered script on the front of the handle, and the piece is 9-1/2" in length. There is an old mend at the handle-bowl join.

Coffin-fiddle handle, c1810 - large molded pointed-arch drop; dual mono, both in feathered script on front: G B C and, probably later, F C C C; 9-5/8" in length. Very slight tipwear, otherwise excellent.
