Made by John Christian Wiltberger -- oval-end handle, feathered script mono D F C on front; 5-7/8" long. Very good bird and cage under banner proclaiming LIBERTY. Overall condition is very good, bowl tip unworn.

Pointed-end handle, c1790 -- this is the date at which McConnell became a silversmith in Wilmington. Mono is a feathered script LD, length is 5-1/4". Bird is lightly struck but all its parts are intact. Spoon is in very good condition, no tipwear, the handle a bit askew but nothing major. McConnell is not known for his birdback spoons; this may in fact be a rarity.

Pointed-end handle, c1795 -- block mono M G on front. Length is 5-3/8". Condition of both spoon and bird is near-mint -- no tipwear, and bird is well struck and has retained all of its parts.

Downturned fiddle handles, pointed shoulders, incised pointed arch drop, c1815-20 -- feathered script mono E H E on handle front; 5-3/4" in length. No tipwear, overall condition is excellent.

Fiddlethread pattern, 13" in length with 4-1/4"-long bowl, huge flared shoulders at base of stem. Mono on front of the handle is W C in old English letters, topped by the crest of a crown, and over the date, 1864, probably the year of its manufacture. Outside the south, of course, a rice spoon is more commonly referred to as a stuffing spoon. Condition of this piece is excellent.

Oval-end handles, c1795 -- brightcutting and roulette work entire length of handle, block mono in I C in cartouche on front; 9" in length. Birds are a tad worn but spoons are in great shape, brightcutting still crisp, marks (M&R) as clear as the day they were struck.

16" tall, 13" across base, 74 Troy oz. We understand that this piece was designed at the Tiffany studio in the 1960s and that it was fabricated in Italy. What better home base for a campanile! As shown, the body consists of 8 S-scroll vertical straps on 8 ball feet. Two horizontal straps are connected to the vertical strip with silver rivets. Downturned fiddle handle, no shoulders, drop, shaded old English S on front; 5-1/2" long. Condition is excellent. Franciscus worked in Baltimore from 1810-18, and from 1819-40 in Lancaster, PA. These spoons are fully marked with a shield, the dominical letter A (which denotes 1815 as the year it was made), and the head of liberty. It is rare to find Franciscus silver so clearly associated with Baltimore, the city of his birth.
