Offering for sale this lovely Blue Willow Mug made by Fire-King. The pattern features the Blue Willow design. The willow pattern tells an ancient story. There are many versions, but here is a concise one: Once upon a time there lived a very wealthy Mandarin who had a beautiful daughter named Hong Shee. There was also a poor boy named Chang who loved Hong Shee. To keep them apart, the Mandarin imprisoned his daughter in the palace. One day she escaped and the two lovers raced over the bridge to a waiting boat, her father in hot pursuit. They managed to elude him and settled on a distant island. Eventually the Mandarin heard of their whereabouts and sent guards to destroy them. Chang was put to the sword and Hong Shee set fire to the house while she was still inside, unable to face life without her love. Thus they both perished. But the gods, touched by their love, immortalized them as two lovebirds, eternally flying together in the sky. The mug is 3 3/8" tall and has a 3" diameter. In excellent condition.
