THESE DOLLS ARE NOT COVERED WITH VARNISH. THE ARTIST USED A SPECIAL DEVICE KNOWN AS WOODBURNING OR POKING. ALL THE OUTLINES OF THE DESIGN WERE PAINSTAKINGLY BURNED INTO THE WOOD, THEN PAINTED WITH SPECIAL PAINTS. AFTER THAT THE FINISHING TOUCHES WERE ADDED WITH A SPECIAL GOLDEN FOIL.
