Very nice pair of L.E. Smith Romanesque pattern amber candleholders, manufactured in the early 1930s. There is a great deal of mold roughness on this set, encountered sometimes with machine-made depression glass as molds became worn. Most of it is present on the ring where the candle sits in the holder, and on the inner and outer edge of the bottom or foot of the candleholders. Under the magnifying glass all of this proves to be tiny globs of glass formed when the piece was taken from the mold , even an area on one bottom corner which one would believe to be a 1/4" long chip until looking closer. The trail of globs of glass follows the curved edge of this indentation, and the edges are smooth, which shows it to be a manufacturing flaw. A scan of this area is included so the buyer can be the judge of both the area of pulled glass and the mold roughness.
