An aesthetically pleasing repousse sterling tray, oval in form on an oval foot, with twin-looped naturalistic handles. The central oval clearing has an interesting crest of intertwined sprigs of a rose and a thistle. Seems to suggest an alliance, or marriage, of Scotland and England.
In very good condition. Good clear repousse decoration. Marked S. Kirk & Son., 11 oz, for the period 1880-90.
Dimensions: 13.25" long, 8" wide. Weight 18 Troy oz.

Andrew Ellicot Warner had a long and illustrious career from 1805, starting a partnership with his brother Thomas which was dissolved in 1812, until his death in 1870. He can certainly take credit for introducing, or reviving, the repousse decoration which wa ...click for details
