A fabulous sterling basket with a hammered texture and a carved simulated rope ebony handle.
Unfortunately it is unascribed, only marked with Sterling and 925. It is very much in the style of Georg Jensen which leads me to believe that it was made by La Paglia. La Paglia was greatly influenced by the Danish silversmiths designs and I have had a number of hand-crafted items attributed to La Paglia with just the Sterling mark.
Excellent condition.

This three-legged sterling sugar bowl is typically Irish and is a form that has been used since about 1730. This one was made about 1775. I cannot be more precise as, also typically Irish, it was hallmarked without the date letter.
It was made by that renowned Dublin silversmith, Matthew West, whose career began in 1762 when he started his 7 year apprenticeship, to his uncle John West. On completing his apprenticeship he became a Freeman in 1769, then a Master in 1783. He died in 1806 after a l ...click for details

Here is a small sterling carriage clock made about 1916 with a fitted case. Normally they are made of brass and are about 4" to 6" high, and the name derives from the fact that they were designed to be used in carriages, i.e. they were transportable. They were the first mobile clocks.
The movement is brass and is fitted in a sterling case.
It was probably made in Switzerland and imported into London in 1916, according to the hallmarks. I have not been able to trace the maker, JTC, b ...click for details

A very elegant pair of sterling repousse gravy boats retailed by J.E Caldwell & Co., of Philadelphia and dated 1884. They have a graceful, 18th century form decorated with dense repousse-work, edged with a gadrooned rim. Each has a naturalistic handle and is supported on three shell feet.
There is an inscription on the base which reads:
J.A & B.M.L from Julia. W. Lewis May 17 1884.
They are in excellent condition which is amazing for their age. Their is no damage or repair.
