A very rare matchsafe in Sterling and Tortoiseshell in the shape of a tortoise, made in Birmingham, England in 1910 by Levi & Salaman. It is very realistically made even to the scale-like finish to the head and legs. Just a hairline crack to the shell above the head, is the only damage. 3.25" long, 2.5" wide.

A fabulous sterling compote by Gorham dated 1872, E, depicting a sword weilding goddess atop a globe which is supported by a pile of rocks. Their is an owls head on her breast. I am sure a bit of research will reveal all that you see, but I do not have the time. It is all in wonderful condition with no monograms or inscription. 11.5" high, 11.5" in diameter. 42 Troy oz.

A small but very ornate sterling mug by one of the more eminent silversmiths of that era, Sunshing. Marked on the base with S.S and a Chinese ideogram. Decorated all over with fruit-bearing branches with a branch handle. Very good condition. A shield-shaped `cartouche in front bears the monogram, a gothic "EO'HM". No doubt an Irish name so it could have a Massachusetts provenance. 3.75" tall.

This is quite a robust coin ladle in the fiddle and thread pattern by a firm I had not encountered before, Bennett & Bros, 586 Broadway. I addition on the rear of the fiddle there is an inscribed date of 1852, presumably from when it dates. The top face of the fiddle has had a monogram removed. It has been very professionally done because, at first, one, that's me, would think it was the designed curvature of the handle. The area has even acquired its own patina.
