A very elegant, graceful form with fabulous all-over repousse decoration. One side is adorned with an exotic bird feeding on a bunch of berries while the other side has a basket of equally exotic fruit, all surrounded by trailing branches blooming with a myriad various flowers, finished with a cast silver basket of fruit forming the thumbpiece on the handle. In case the inscription is not clear in the picture, it reads: "Presented to Col James G Beret, by his Associate Clerks on the occasion of his retiring from the Chief Clerkship of the Pension Office, October 1st 1849, as a testimonial of their regard for him as a Gentleman, Officer and a Friend." It has been very well cared for as it is in excellent condition with a wonderful patina.
Struck on the underside of the base A.E.Warner in a rectangular cartouche with the 11 mark.
Dimensions: 12" to top of handle. Weight: 31 Troy oz.
