A very impressive pair of sterling gravy boats made by John Pollock of London in 1752. They have that early wide squat form, fully chased and supported on three hoofed feet, bearing masks of a very hirsute Royalist-looking character. The handles, too, terminate in a leopards head. The human masks are incredible, massive with deep relief and full of detail. Under the front lip is a cartouche bearing a contemporary monogram of, what appears to be, back-to-back entwined C's.
Wonderful condition, clearly hallmarked, as pictured.
Dimensions: 7.5" long, 4" wide, 5.25" high. Total weight 25 Troy oz.
