Here is a striking beautiful sterling bowl by the Whiting Company. It is described as repousse in the title, but that was purely descriptive. The floral work on this bowl is applied and chased, which is a much more skilled and painstaking process. These applied flowers and leaves seem to 'grow' out of a background of acid-etched shrubbery. All this decoration is over a hammered texture to the bowl. In short this bowl has undergone three different methods of decoration.
In that respect it is unique.
Fully marked on the base with an inscribed name of W.H. Saxton. I am not sure if that was an owner or a retailer.
Dimensions: 8.75" in diameter, 3.25" high. Weight 15 Troy oz.
