A very elegant pair of sterling repousse gravy boats retailed by J.E Caldwell & Co., of Philadelphia and dated 1884. They have a graceful, 18th century form decorated with dense repousse-work, edged with a gadrooned rim. Each has a naturalistic handle and is supported on three shell feet.
There is an inscription on the base which reads:
J.A & B.M.L from Julia. W. Lewis May 17 1884.
They are in excellent condition which is amazing for their age. Their is no damage or repair.
There is no maker's mark, but the retailer,s name should be recommendation enough.
Dimensions: 8.5" long, 5.5" high. Total weight 24.6 Troy oz.
