I have had numerous small mugs from the Georgian period but never one of this form, and never one that could be described as a child's mug.It has cute applied borders and an attractive cast handle. Never been inscribed. Visible construction seam by the handle and a turned base.
It has some intriguing scratched figures on the base, some small but all very light, that probably pertain to the construction. The most prominent is: 914 = 5" 7 dw. I am not sure of the 914 but 5" 7 dw would be the weight in Troy ounces and Pennyweights at the time of completion. That compares well with the present weight of 5 Troy oz 1 dwt(pennyweight), allowing 6 dwt for erosion due to polishing over the last 200 years.
In excellent condition. Made by Rebecca Emes and Edward Barnard of London in 1809. Both were descendants of important silversmithing dynasties, who set up shop in 1808.
Dimensions: 2.75" tall, 2.75" top diameter. Weight 5.05 Troy oz.
