An Oshigata Book of Modern Japanese Swordsmiths 1868-1945. This book was first published in 2001 by John Scott Slough in paperback. John is a family friend, and I know firsthand the effort and care he put into this project. This is the deluxe second printing from 2004, featuring a hard linen cover, and gold leaf lettering on cover and spine (first printing is paperback)...

This offering is a fine pair of menuki featuring a monkey riding a horse on one and the other looks to be a monkey chasing a horse, attempting to mount. There looks to be just a bit of smoothing in a tiny spot of one horse's leg. Other then that condition is terrific and detail is fine right down to the horses' abumi and even the braiding on the harnesses.

This offering is a finely made basket, I believe it is Papago. It has a unique star shaped rim woven into place at five points. No noticable damage, but does show its age. Maximum width including the rim is just under 15cm, not including the rim it is 12cm. A basket with character.

This is a very special piece with a rich history. I have had this in my personal collection for many years now. It started out as an American Revolution horseman saber. A nearly identical sword is pictured on page 164 of George C Neumann's important book "Swords & Blad3es of the American Revolution" (third edition, October 1991). During the Civil War a Confederate soldier had it either cut down or remounted to a bowie knife. Its current blade length is just under 17 inches...

This offering is a very tasteful Japanese bud vase featuring three characters in kimono. It measures a little under 4 inches. For whatever reason, the signature is blackened making it hard to make out.

This patch is for a WWII German mountain troop. Excellent condition, probably unissued, it features an eidelweis flower on black background. The eidelweis has long been the symbol for German mountain troops.

This is the soft cover first edition from 1979. Written by the highly respected Thomas M. Johnson, this is one of the early collecting classics and is a nice, small size for carrying with you. It is in very good shape with minor age showing. A hard to find book.

Nice, original medal bar as worn on parade uniform. WWI Iron cross hallmarked "W", Hindenberg cross maker marked 0.2 and 25 year faithful service NSDAP having about 40% original silver wash intact. A nice grouping with some character.

War merit 1st Class with issued box. Silvered zinc variety. As is normally the case the finish is mostly worn off. This type of metal didn't hold the silvering very well and even when properly stored it tends to come off over the years. The issue box is very nice except the hinge, which is actually a leatherette tape, is seperated (but still held on by the fabric on the right half). As most collectors know, the boxes are far more scarce then the medal...

Excellent, ORIGINAL, pre WWI German regimental stein. Reservist Wilden. Kgl (?) Bayr. 22 Inf Regt 9 Comp. Saargemund 1912-1914. Nice bright colors with no chips, cracks or damage that I can find. Very interesting as it actually has the fellows photograph beside that of the king. Lithopane on bottom shown in photos. The lion thumb catch has a crystal eye. These crystals are tiny (about 2mm diameter), but had detailed photographs visible when peered through...

This is one of those items that you have to like more the more you look at it. It is a silk hinomaru flag to which was added a gold fringe and a purple silk border. The quality is evident in that even the purple border has a pattern of hummingbirds over water that was too subtle to catch on a photograph. The dedication states that it was a gift from Nakao Kazuo to Ushijima Juzo with a phrase basically stating "Good luck in long fighting"...

Nice field police helmet. Not the light weight aluminum, but the heavy steel for the business end of police matters. Original liner is missing one tongue. It has some other damage, but is mostly there and not really falling apart. The dome pad is loose but there. I see "Eason" written on it 4 times; He was the vet from whose family I purchased this from. The shell is very nice and has the vent holes near the decals typical of police helmets...
