Wow. This is a piece of Americana that just intrigues me. Carved out of a solid elephant ivory ball, this piece opens up into 3 panels carved in 3D. The soldiers on each panel are renderings of typical Revolutionary War soldiers. The center panel is an officer on horseback, possible George Washington, and is one half of the ball. The right quarter is a navy fellow holding a cutlass with the sea behind him. The left panel looks to be an infantryman with either cannon bursts or clouds behind him. ...click for details
Very nice painting of Marie Antoinette. I am not well versed on the subject but I believe this is oil on ivory. The frame is just beautiful and measures just under 15x13 cm. The labels on the back "Made in Italy" and "Hand Painted" are typical of Italian exports I believe between 1910 and 1920 but the painting is likely older then that. I am not sure what the tape on the rear is holding together as the back stand, although a bit loose, does seem to be anchored. I leave things ...click for details
