The quality and condition of the fabric on this tunic is top notch. This must have been in a safe collection for quite a while as the fabric is soft with a full pile and minimal wear. I am sure it has been displayed in a flat case because when laid out for photos the arms just flop right down in the perfect display position with just the right bend on each side in the back. It is early quality throughout and as it was most certainly private purchase there are no inspector marks. One knowledgable source I referred this to thought it to be an early Austrian and in 1938 they just put German insignia on it. That does go well with the Tyrolean tailor label on the neck. Solid wear to the bullion eagle which must have rubbed something when in use (Seatbelt?). It is not easy to tell from the top but the shoulder boards each have a pip removed. The same knowledgeable source told me this is not unheard of as they often gave temporary promotions just so a guy could have the proper rank for whatever he was tasked to do. There are loops for two badges. New owner could choose to make him a paratrooper or a pilot. Besides the pips and the wear on the eagle this tunic is a solid 10 out of 10.
