Imperial German Damascus Sword - Mohr & Speyer Berlin
Nice Imperial German sword with Damascus blade. The handle and scabbard are both well oxidized but should clean up well for someone with that desire. The important things are all fine. The wire wrap and fish skin handle are tight and undamaged. The handle assembly as a whole is nice and tight with no wiggle between it and the blade. The original washer is present and hard as a rock. Near the base of the blade on both sides is a significant amount of gold wash. On one side, engraved on very pretty scrolls, is "EISENHAUER" and "DAMASTSTAHL". The first term indicates the top quality of steel was used and the second obviously indicates that this is a damascus blade. On the other side is engraved "MITT GOTT FUR KONIG U. VATERLAND" or "With God for king and fatherland". Blade is generally clean throughout with just a few spots here and there; Still quite clean and bright. As often seen in fine damascus blades the last third of the blade flares out into a nice, wide tip. Spine is maker marked Mohr & Speyer, Berlin. Nice sword all around.
