Imperial German Cigarette Case w 1914 Iron Cross Device
Very interesting Imperial German cigarette case. In the upper left corner is a 1914 iron cross which has the same patina as the rest of the case. I think it looks great as is but a little cleaning would make this a lot splashier. The hinge and closing snap both work great. The inside has a gold colored finish. The final image shows a closeup of the finish damage in the inside upper left, the hook and spring setup that holds the all important cigarettes and the back prongs of the iron cross device. Of note with the attachment prongs is the fact that when the hole was punched for the device it wrinkled the metal just a touch. This wrinkle is below the gold finish which is a very solid indication that this case was made as it is shown and not just an old cigarette case that was recently married to the iron cross device. Really a neat item that gives a good feel of the time.
