Kreuzer Karlsruhe Kriegsmarine Cap Talley - WWII German
Very nice cap talley for the K-Klasse cruiser Karlsruhe. Kriegsmarine crew members of ships were authorized to wear such tallies on their Donald Duck hats to identify the ship they were assigned to. In 1938 these were withdrawn in anticipation of mobilization and all members were then to wear the generic "Kriegsmarine" talley except for some naval schools. Condition on this talley is superb with perfect machine woven gilt thread with no snags or "washing out". There are some folds due to in being in a plastic holder but nothing that can't be flattened out by pressing overnight. Also included are a few pages of history for this ship. It seems that the cruiser Karlsruhe was torpedoed and sunk during its return from operations related to the invasion of Norway.
